It’s a mouthful but an apt description of what we do….
Hi I’m Kylie…and I am the we in Serafinas! I am a mother, artist and kick arse BOSS LADY! I started out like many others just “playing with clay’ and creating for my friends and family as a hobby, as well as a self care exercise to destress! I realised I had a knack for making beautiful things with this medium. I’m a painter at heart…but I needed a challenge…which led me to my love of all things caning! Caning is a technique where a pliable medium is manipulated to make a three dimension picture. Have you ever seen a confectioner make rock candy? It’s kinda like that but instead of sugar I use polymer clay.
It has taken time to perfect my techniques…and I am always learning and evolving. So so many hours go into each of my collections! Planning, designing, conditioning, blending, sculpting, reducing, slicing, arranging, sizing, baking and sanding….that’s before the stud posts are attached and the earrings are ready for carding. But I love what I do…like I really love it! Creating amazing colourful unique little works of werable art you can connect to is this artists dream…and being able to make this my job is incredible. Thank you!
Inspired By Nature
Serafinas is know for our use of colour!! We love colour….and we use alot of it. Colour builds moods, changes moods and resonates with the mood we are expreriencing. We think the best colourways are the inspo boards just outside your front door….you just need to open your eyes. There is beauty in everything…even the things we deem ugly have a beauty to them. Perfectly imagined by nature.
A Deeper Shade of Green
As polymer clay is a plastic base medium and isn’t environmentally friendly, we strive to make environmentally friendly choices where we can to offset our impact of it's use.
We don’t ever make for the sake of making. Each collection is designed and planned with this in mind and product is ordered specifically for it. We use all of our clay!! Literall all of it…and mindfully! We design and make thoughtfully...managing our use of colours and quantity of the clay we use and don’t invest in product we won’t use. We also reuse the excess clay remaining from the caning process of each art collection and use it to make our abstract earrings, necklaces etc. So each abstract has a piece of the original artwork within its own uniqueness.
We reuse and recycle where we can. All of our packaging is reused, reusable or recyclable. We don't stamp our postage boxes and use compostable postage bags. We limit the use of stickers etc and invest in sturdy long lasting items for our market stalls...even our zip ties we use for hanging our banners and bunting are reusable.
